Yoga Styles

“All of our classes at Beloved Yogi Harlem are open to all levels of experience. Come as you are and start where you are at.”

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is dynamic style of Yoga, which consists of a powerful physical work out, meditations using breath and sound, and deep relaxation. Through Kriyas (physical energizing sets with a specific objective), Pranayam (powerful breathing exercises), Mantra (the science of sound), Meditation (science of the mind) and deep relaxation; the practitioner, through a regular practice is able to strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system, cleanse their magnetic field, balance the chakras, awaken their inner essence and align with the Universal Life Force. Ultimately it allows you to use your own creative energy to elevate, crystalize and heal. There are no beginners classes or advanced classes in Kundalini Yoga. Come as you are and start where you are at. There are always modifications given for exercises that are challenging for different body types. If your body can move, and you are able to breath, then you can practice Kunalini Kriya & Meditation.

Hatha Yoga uses postures (asanas) and stretches in combination with the breath to develop flexibility and relaxation. There are many styles of Hatha Yoga. At Urban Rishi our style of Hatha is focused on a series of postures that encourage proper alignment of the body and bring balance, strength, and calmness to the practitioner. Our Hatha Yoga classes are based on the classic and ancient practices with attention to alignment and the deeper layers of yoga.

Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes a continuous flow of movement using sun salutations, dynamic breathing and long holdings. Each part of the body (inside and out) is explored and worked in a deep and mindful way. This practice builds strength, tones and detoxifies. Vinyasa is a fun and creative practice requiring focus and dedication.
